Habitat.
They lived best in grasslands. They were know to be found in grasslands with poor nutritional value in its land. To be more accurate they lived in mountains or grasslands depending upon which population-see below.
Range.
There were known to be two populations of Maculinea Alcon in the Netherlands. One group was in Meijendel and the other in Meiji.
Diet.
The Dutch Alcon Blue Butterfly feeds on nectar from the Erica Tetralix, The Geniana Pneumonanthe, and Gentiana Cruciata.
Defense verses Offense.
Due to the fact that these butterflies did not eat other animals, they took the defensive position. The majority of the time they took the flight option in the flight or fight response.
Prey/Enemies.
The butterflies are hunted by many animals including but not limited to birds, dragonflies, toads, and snakes.
Reproduction.
The Dutch Alcon Blue Butterfly uses sexual reproduction. These butterflies were myrmecophilous or had a relationship with ants. Caterpillars are taken in by ants to be grown into butterflies. The butterfly goes through metamorphosis-catipillar, cocoon, butterfly.
